Kenny Plaster, a tattoo artist and permanent cosmetics expert at AK Lounge, has performed numerous procedures for breast cancer survivors. This past month he was invited to speak to the PRMA Pink Ladies, a breast cancer support group, to highlight the benefits of 3D nipple/areola tattooing.

A Brief Overview

There was certainly a lot of talk (and laughter) at the PRMA Pink Ladies’ meeting  last month as Kenny answered every standard and comical question that was thrown his way about what a typical 3D nipple/areola tattooing procedure looks like. Kenny covered the basics and discussed topics such as pricing, the length of an average procedure, healing time, and the equipment used.

Know the FAQs

3D nipple/areola tattooing is $350 for a single breast and $700 for a double breast procedure. For custom tattoos, cover ups (including scar camouflage), removals, and permanent cosmetics, pricing will vary depending on the area. For a full list of prices, you can visit our Tattoo Services and Permanent Cosmetics pages.

A procedure can take approximately 25 to 30 minutes for one breast and 45 minutes to an hour for both. Kenny has had the advantage of working with and learning from other artists to utilize the best techniques possible to decrease procedure time without sacrificing quality.

When it comes to any permanent cosmetics or tattooing procedure, there is going to be some down time needed for the skin to heal properly. Every process is different so the amount of time it takes to heal will depend on the condition of the client’s skin and how well they are caring for it following the procedure. On average, it takes between two to three days for tattoos to fully heal.

Kenny also highlighted in detail the types of equipment used in a typical procedure. Kenny uses ink that is made from organic pigments that is better for your skin and the environment. All machines have high power and, when matched with the right needle(s), can create more precision for a clean finish.

A Natural Finish

Kenny tries to be as natural as possible with tattooing to get better results for his clients. It’s all about illusion as well. With a 3D nipple/areola tattoo, breasts will look like they are elevated so that they can look completely natural and realistic. His consultations and test runs will ensure that all breast cancer survivors (including the PRMA Pink Ladies) have access to the perfect shade of ink to match their skin tone for maximum results.
